UBA Group: minimum Account now 25,000 Naira.

In a recent email sent to customers, the UBA group made it known that the minimum account balance which was 1000 Naira for a Savings account has now been increased to 25,000.
Here's a copy of the email.


Dear Customer,

To improve the quality of service we provide our numerous customers, we write to formally inform you of the =N=25,000.00 minimum account balance requirement by your bank. This is being introduced so that we can continue to provide you, our esteemed client with world class banking services in all your transactions with UBA.

Please note that with effect from July 1 to September 30 2011, we expect you to increase and maintain your current account balance to the new operating balance of =N=25,000.00 if you desire to continue transacting banking business with UBA over the counter. In the unlikely event that you are unable to meet this new requirement by October 1 2011, you will be given the opportunity to migrate to our mobile banking (U-Mo) or E-banking channels so that we can continue to serve you better.

The following account types are exempted from the new =N=25,000 minimum account balance initiative:

§  Salary and Pension Accounts
§  Overdraft and Facility linked Current Accounts
§  Current Accounts linked to Deposit/Investment Accounts with NGN100,000 plus value
§  Para-military/Military/Ex-Servicemen Accounts

Let's wait and see as this plan unfolds, will it improve services or reduce their customer base.
