At the recent Commonwealth Heads of government meeting held in australia, different countries sent delegations numbering from about 10 to 15. News got around that the Nigerian delegation was a total of 120 people who had no business being there - a political commentator C.C Ekeke writes about this waste of scarce resources.

" Australians, especially government officials, had the rare privilege – early last week – to witness firsthand, in flesh and blood, the joke that goes on as government and governance in Nigeria. The Aussies may have read tons of reports and essays about how leadership –or lack of it –reduced Africa’s most promising nation to the world’s topmost object of mockery; but they saw it transported, 8000 nautical miles, from Abuja to Perth last week.

In an apparent demonstration of  insensitivity to the feelings and frustrations of Nigerians, the president displayed to a nation at the brink of total economic collapse the position of profligacy and vanity in his scale of preference. To represent Nigeria at this year’s Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Australia, Mr. Jonathan ferried an embarrassingly over bloated delegation of 120 people, causing Nigeria to earn the unenviable reputation of the country with the highest number of delegates. That misadventure, to put it mildly, summarizes Mr. Jonathan’s regime as a grossly irresponsible one."
