Nigerians Who Make Money Online and How They Do It (Legally)

Over the years, very many people have asked if it's possible for Nigerians to make money online. Truth is: Nigerians Make Money Online, and in this article, I would introduce you to the ones I know about. I will introduce each person, his/her website, what they do, and how they make money from the website.

After reading this post, you would be greatly amazed at the potential of the internet. If you are a newbie on the internet business scene, this would serve both as an eye-opener and assurance of the income potential of the internet, as well as a guide to how you too can participate and start making money online. Without much ado, let's get straight to business.

Here is the List Of Nigerians That Make Money On The Internet and What They Do.

Seun Osewa

You cannot talk of internet business in Nigeria without mentioning Seun Osewa. He is Nigeria's Foremost Internet Entrepreneur. He started out in 2005, and today, he's had no cause to regret.

Website: NairaLand

Seun started a forum named Nairaland way back in 2005. 7 years on, NairaLand is the First of all Nigeria-Owned websites on the world wide web according to Alexa ranking. Invariably, NairaLand is the "Google Of Nigeria". When you consider that other media websites like that of Vanguard, Punch and other newspaper companies are also in this race, you would agree totally with me that Seun has done a really great job. In February 2012, NairaLand was redeveloped for the first time since it's inception.

What Does Seun Do?

Seun is a Programmer, like me. But, that's not how he makes money online. Although, he was part of the team that redeveloped the New Nairaland, Programming is not his main source of income. He doesn't do much now because what he runs is a forum called NairaLand.

A forum is a website for people to ask questions, get answers and rub minds concerning issues that matter to them. That is to say, Seun has placed a website for people to find the answers they seek. But this same people, I inclusive, are indirectly working for him. As as the last count, Nairaland has grown to a membership strength of over 800,000. Most of these are Nigerians both home and abroad.

How Seun Makes Money
The source of Seun's income is advertisement (personal paid ads inclusive). A major chunk of this ad income comes from Google Adsense. If there are other sources of income on Nairaland, I am not aware. Although, I am not certain of how much Seun makes from Nairaland, a reasonable guess, based on the traffic rank figures is that it is above ₦1,000,000 monthly. I hope Seun doesn't crucify me on this!

Linda Ikeji

Linda Ikeji is Nigeria's No. 1 blogger. She started her blog way back in 2007 as a personal journal, but today all that's changed cos that blog has become a goldmine from which she's happily employed.

Website: LindaIkeji Blog

Linda started her blog way back in 2007. 5 years on, this blog has turned out to Nigeria's premier Entertainment News Hub. According to Alexa ranking, Linda's Blog is Nigeria's No. 1. That makes her the "Problogger Of Nigeria". I just hope I am right on this one. Till date, Linda's Blog is still the free blogspot account she started with, can you imagine that?

What Does Linda Do?

Linda is a Freelance Journalist. But, that's not how she makes money online. Unlike Seun, Linda has to actively provide the content that readers come looking for on her blog. That sounds like a full time job right? Well, it is, because for a blog, the owner has to do all the writing for the articles that the readers consume. Most of Linda's blog followers are Nigerians both home and abroad.

How Linda Makes Money

The source of Linda's income is also tied to her blog, and this is primarily through advertisement. But in Linda's case, it's a mixture of Personal-Paid Ads, Features articles, and Google Adsense. If there are other sources of income for her, I am not aware of that. Although, I am not certain of how much Linda makes from her blog, a reasonable guess, based on the traffic rank figures is that it is approximately ₦450,000 monthly.

Jide Ogunsanya

Jide Ogunsanya is my personal person. He started it on the internet with a blog way back in 2007 with the intent of making money online. Today, he's fully employed both by the blog and Glo World! No doubt, this guy is more Igbo than I am, forget the Yoruba blood running in his system. He's got the Igbo genes! LOL!

Website: OgbongeBlog

Jide started his blog way back in 2007. 5 years on, this blog has turned out to become a better employer to him than Glo itself. According to Alexa ranking, OgbongeBlog is one of the top 100 websites in Nigeria.

What Does Jide Do?

Jide is a blogger to the core. He, just like every other blogger, has to actively write the articles readers come looking for on the web. Most of Jide's blog followers are Nigerians, but he receives a large chunk of traffic from foreign visitors.

How Jide Makes Money

The source of Jide's income is also tied to his blog, and this is primarily through Google Adsense. If there are other sources of income for him, he hasn't told me. I "over-sure" of how much Jide makes from adsense, a reasonable 12-month average, based on his annual earnings puts him at approximately ₦140,000 monthly.

Maybe you are one of these people, or maybe you know one person whose name is worth mention. Please tell us by using the comment form below. Thanks!
