A typical Nigerian now sees the word - Subsidy - to looting public funds generated from the Production and sale of petroleum products in Nigeria but it's actually used to reduce the prices of Goods and services.

That whole definition is about to change with the introduction of the Subsidy Re-Investment Empowerment Programme. (SURE-P) and a Graduate Internship scheme (GIS)


An Initiative from the Federal Ministry of Finance and partner companies targets community service, women and youth empowerment.

It's main objective is the provision of temporary employment to Nigerian youths in labour intensive public works. This is consistent with the priority of the government to tackle youth unemployment in Nigeria and improve the livelihoods of youths to meet international vision 2020.


The SURE Programme seeks to target the largest population of unskilled unemployed and underemployed poor women and youths as well as other vulnerable groups in our society by presenting them with ample opportunities in the public works programmes and internships in firms for the skilled and educated... We have to show that we are committed to delivering on our promises, in order to win back public confidence in our government.  - Goodluck Jonathan.






Let me break it down - Nigerian Unemployed Graduates below the age of 40 can now have government assigned One Year Internship programs in reputable companies related to their field of study to gain more experience and become employable.

 GIS Application Eligibility: Who can Apply?You must meet the following requirements to apply for Gratuate Internship Scheme:
To register as a graduate for this scheme you MUST:

• Be a Nigerian citizen with valid ID (Drivers license, National ID, Voters card) to show
• Applicants must be from ages 18 – 40 years with Birth certificate to show.
• GIS Applicants must have completed 1 year NYSC programme or exempted.
• Applicants must possess any of the following degree (BSc, BEng, BA, HND etc.) certificates or higher qualification.
• A recent passport photograph not larger than 100KB is required for the Online Registration.

NOTE: The WYE programme will handle all payments to participating companies and graduates.
Company Registration Requirement

• Be registered with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and other relevant professional bodies.
• Provide evidence of VAT Registration and the latest Tax Clearance Certificate.
• Be prepared to provide a mentoring plan for each intern within 30 days of their start.
• Be able to employ interns for a period of one (1) year.
