Facebook temporary shutdown for database upgrade?

Who would have thought that a multi-billion Dollar website like Facebook can suffer from downtime??It's usually websites hosted on cheap hosts that get knocked offline for hours at a time.


A few minutes ago i tried to Login to Facebook and here's the message i got:

 Upon further investigation, it was revealed that users may not be able to login to their accounts while a database update is being carried out on the particular Facebook server in which their account details is stored.


Umm this sounds a bit like OLD Technology - What happened to Data liberation and other advanced server technology which allows data to be stored at multiple locations and synced?


The upgrade only takes a few hours and should be reported here if it takes more than 24 hours.


Isn't it nice to know the Big Shots also have Server Problems? lol - they can't always be perfect.
