The days of Google Talk are quickly coming to an end.The messaging service that allowed Gmail users to talk to each other since it launched in 2005, will now be completely replaced.
Google notified its users of Google Talk replacement  with Hangout, users  gets an “invite” to move to Hangouts. After June 26, 2017 that switch will be mandatory. This means users are  to migrate to the Hangouts app on the Chrome browser platform. In May 2016, at Google I/O 2016, Google announced two new apps: Google Allo, an AI-based messaging app and Google Duo, a video calling app. Google has since confirmed that the new apps will not replace Hangouts - Hangouts will remain a separate product.

Google Talk
Google talk also known called Google chat is an instant messaging service that provide Gmail users with voice and text communication, the Google talk was Available on Chrome operating system, Android, BlackBerry and Microsoft Windows. It was initially released in August 24, 2005. Google also introduced offline messaging to google talk on October 31, 2006.

Features of Google Talk
  • It allow users to place and receive calls from within gmail
  • Google Talk allows users to leave a voicemail for a contact whether or not they are signed into Google Talk
  • Google also provide a Voice and Video Chat browser that supports voice and video chat between Gmail users
  • it also allows user to send message to their gmail contact even when they are offline
  • Google talk allows text formatting, like making text bold, and italic

On March 9, 2017, Google announced that it would be evolving Hangouts into two products: Hangouts Meet and Hangouts Chat. Hangouts Meet would focus on video conferences and Hangouts Chat would be focused on instant messaging with additional features such as bot assistant and threaded messaging.

Google Hangouts
Google Hangouts is a communication platform developed by Google which includes  video chat, SMS and instant messaging features. Google has also stated that Hangouts is designed to be "the future" of its telephony product, Google Voice, and integrated some of the capabilities of Google Voice into Hangouts. It was initially released in 15th May, 2013. But in January last year being 2016, Google updated the app to tell people not to use it for SMS, recommending to instead use Google's "Messenger" SMS app. It is also available  in Microsoft Windows, web, MacOS, Linux, Chrome Operating System and Android.

Features of Google Hangouts
  • Google hangouts allows conversation between two or more users
  • With Google Hangouts, users can also perform a group video chat with up to 10 users or more at a time
    • Photos can be shared during conversations, which are automatically uploaded into a private Google+ album
    • Users can also now use color emoji symbols in their messages
    • With Hangouts, chat histories are saved online, allowing them to be synced between devices
    • It also includes several Easter eggs to surprise users. With this Easter eggs, a user can Type "happy birthday" and a cake would be rolled out by a fox and a birdie on top of the cake. This also corresponds to typing "happy bday" or "happy b-day".
    With these above mentioned features, and the differences between them we could see thatGoogle Hangouts is more developed than Google talk and will enhance a maximum satisfaction for Gmail users. So, from June 26th 2017 Google hangouts will now be used in place of Google Talk.

    A Gmail user can also switch manually now by logging in your mail before the deadline.
