The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 November as public holidays. President Goodluck Jonathan called on Muslims across the country to use the Sallah occasion and pray for the peace in the country, the Minister of Interior Comrade Abba Patrick Moro, who declared the holiday on behalf of the president, said the holiday is to commemorate the Muslims' celebration of this years' Eid-el-Kabir.

In a statement from the Ministry of Interior, signed by the Ministry's Permanent Secretary S. B. Ozigis, the president wished all Nigerian Muslims happy celebrations.
