100 % Security For Wireless Router – Easy To Setup

Restricting wireless network connection from friends and people around is not a bad idea. Most especially for developing countries that don’t have unlimited internet access, unlike United States and other developed countries were people don’t care about security of Wireless Fidelity (wifi) and live it unsecured for neighbors to access free.

If you’re concerned about Securing your Wireless Router from intruders, Not too worry cause in this post, we’ll show you how to ensure 100 Percent guaranteed way to prevent others from accessing your wireless router / Access point.

Well I manage a small firm that needs internet access 24/7 and securing our wifi is my top priority. But even if you don’t manage a firm like I do, you’ll still find this useful because it saves you that money you are suppose to spend on data subscription on necessarily because of some intruder.

Steps On How To Setup A Secure Wifi Connection
There are many ways of setting up a secure wifi but for this tutorial I’ll show you how to use Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) and  Wi-Fi Protected Access II (WPA2) protocol and MAC Address Filtering

  • Logon to the Internet Protocol (IP) address of your router
  • The default IP for Linksys Routers are usually 192.168.1.1 – Username: Admin, password: admin – If you use other brands, google the Default login details.
  • Enter your Username and Password.
  • Click on Wireless menu

  • Enter the same setting as shown in the image above. Only change the Wireless Network Name (SSID).
  • Click on Apply Setting.

1.   For Wi-Fi Protected Access II (WPA2) protocol do the following setting

  • Type your preferred password in WPA share key box.
  • Save and Apply Setting.

2. For Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP).
This generates a random Password based of input provided.

  • Change the security mode to WEP.
  • Choose a default transmit key
  • Set the Encryption a shown above.
  • Type your passphrase e.g Yeslock
  • Click on Generate
  • And select any of the four Keys listed.
  • Save and Apply Setting.

3. MAC  Filter (Advanced)
MAC address filter is a form of Wireless Protection that uses White listing / Black listing or MAC address of network devices that connect to it.

On the Mac Filtering TAB, Turn MAC filtering onto restrict network access to Everyone except those listed.
– Enter the MAC addresses of Computers, Mobile devices, Printers in the office that should have access.
– The MAC Address of computers can be found by viewing the Properties or your Computer Network Card or Viewing the ABOUT device section on Mobile devices.
– The disadvantage of this type of protection is that any new device (Laptop) that wants to connect must first be added to your Router MAC address filtering settings.

Finally your wifi is safe and secured. Anyone who wants to get access to your wifi will need to input your Wireless Network Name and Key which only you can provide.
