There are rumors currently trending on social media about a war between Nigeria and Niger. But lemme burst your bubble, President Allassane Ouattara spoke about the coup in Niger Republic and he said “this is not Nigeria VS Niger issue, it is ECOWAS VS Niger. Mean while, some Nigerians are ready to “japa” out of the country until the war is over. See you.

The reason for the current coup in Niger is because of the rising insecurity and also lack of economic growth. And the coup plotters also stated that it is necessary to avoid the gradual demise of the country. And for the sake of those that don’t know, coup in government means the unlawful seize of power from the government.

The President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu affirms unwavering support for Niger’s return to peaceful democracy though active dialogue. In his closing remark at the 2nd Extraordinary Summit on the socio-political situation in Niger Republic on Thursday 10 August 2023 in Abuja, Nigeria, the President expressed his appreciation for member states’ dedication and efforts in solving the challenges in Niger.

The Nigerian President also emphasized on the remarkable outcome of the summit, which he authorized the standby development of ECOWAS troops to restore constitutional order in the Republic of Niger.

And at the end of the summit, the ECOWAS authority of Heads of State had issued a unanimous directive to restore constitutional order in Niger.
