There is something most people don’t know, but your Gmail account comes with 15GB of storage at no charge. And this storage is shared among your Google Drive, Google Photos and Gmail. When your account reaches its storage limit, you cannot upload a file to Google Drive or send an email. And when this happens, most people create a new account, but I have a solution to that!

And let me also tell you that messages and attachments, like items in your trash and spam folders, often take up space. I guess you didn’t know that up till now. For the sake of those people that don’t know, Gmail is a popular email service provider by Google. Gmail was launched on April 1, 20024 and quickly gained popularity because of its wide range of features. And today, Gmail is considered to be one of the widely used email service provider in the world.

Clearing your space can really help, as it release a little bit of space.

Files in trash are automatically deleted after 30 days. But before they are automatically deleted you still have a chance to restore them. And after the 30 days, you may loose those files permanently.

To make space available on Google Drive, Photos or Gmail, you need to move the files to trash and then empty the trash. That way they won’t consume storage.

Items That Use Up Your Google Storage Space.

These are the items that use the storage space on your Google Drive, Gmail & Google Photos.

  • Gmail:
    • Items that consume your storage are messages and attachments, like items in your Spam and Trash folders.
  • Google Drive:
    • Most files in your “My Drive” take up space. My Drive contains files you uploaded or sync.
    • Items in your trash also take up storage.
    • If you use Google Drive for school or work, contents in shared drives’ trash also consume storage.
  • Google Photos:
    • Photos and videos backed up in its original and also high quality take up space.

Items That Don’t Use Up Your Google Storage Space.

These are the items that don’t use up the storage space on your Google Drive and Photos.

  • Google Photos:
    • Photos and video backed up in storage saver quality or express quality don’t use up storage.
  • Google Drive:
    • Files in “Shared with me” and shared drives don’t use storage. These files only take up storage on the owner’s Google Drive.

What To Do If Your Gmail Account Is Out Of Storage.

Just as I said earlier, your Google account storage is shared among your Google Drive, Gmail and Photos.

You can check how much space you have left on a computer.

And if your out of storage, you can either permanently delete files to clear space or you get more storage.
